John Minor: Determining Wind and Surge Losses
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 • 2:45 – 3:30

With special thanks to the Society of Insurance Research, you are invited to attend an informative class by John Minor of Complete Contracting about Determining Wind and Surge Loses during the Catastrophe Track at Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center.

Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center

The The FSU College of Business is now home to the Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center. We are very involved in addressing the many problems that exist in the Florida property insurance market. We are presenting a seminar in Orlando on September 22 and I hope you can attend. Below is a description of the Center and information about the September 22 program. This appeared in the FAIA Bulletin.

In 2007 lawmakers created The Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center at FSU’s college of Business. It has already become the hub of Florida’s mitigation effort. The center provides support for any entity in preparing for, responding to, or recovering from catastrophic storms. One benefit for agents is that anyone looking for material to present on Florida’s hurricanes and insurance crisis can find it all at: www.stormrisk.org. Particularly interesting, for example, is an overview of Florida’s premium subsidies, the groups who benefit and the groups who pay, and…the unintended consequences on our marketplace. It includes an analysis of assessment procedures for Citizens, the Cat Fund and FIGA. Check it out by clicking here: http://stormrisk.org/

Finally, on September 22, the center will host a Special Catastrophe Track meeting in conjunction with the Society of Insurance Research’s 2009 Annual Conference. This track is coordinated by Florida State University’s Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center. A separate Tuesday only, $99 conference registration is available for attendees who wish to participate in this catastrophe track. This price also includes Sept. 22 continental breakfast and lunch, as well as attendance for the Sept. 22 (8:00am – 9:15am) plenary session entitled “All’s Not Quiet on the Congressional Legislative Front – Responding to the Latest Challenges.” Catastrophe Track registrants who wish to attend the Sept. 21 evening reception as well pay $125.
